Why Hawai‘i?

Because Hawai’i is located at the crossroads of East and West, our higher education schools are living laboratories of cross-cultural communication and diversity where students from all over the globe learn in the classroom, in the field, and from each other as they prepare to succeed in a globalized economy. The unparalleled natural diversity found here provides opportunities to study and do research on the ocean, near active lava flows, and on top of the world’s premier astronomical research site.

Hawai’i’s four-year colleges and universities provide a wide variety of areas for study and research, including natural science programs, tourism and hospitality, engineering, agriculture, international business, language studies, medicine and pharmaceutical studies, as well as many, many others. Several universities also provide a variety of options for graduate study, including arts and sciences, MBA (business) and medical programs.

Hawai’i has a diverse selection of highly accredited private colleges and universities, ranging from small campuses with an intimate feel to larger, urban campuses. The smaller campuses offer programs for students interested in small classes, a low student-teacher ratio, and strong student support.

The state is also home to four-year universities and community colleges that are part of the University of Hawai’i (UH) system. The University of Hawai’i at Manoa, at Hilo, at West Oahu, and Maui College provide bachelor degrees and graduate programs for students in all disciplines. Through UH schools, students can get practical training in the world-famous Hawai’i tourism industry, do geological and astronomical research with leaders in their fields, and work with emerging government and public policy leaders from around Asia. The UH system also boasts a medical school and a law school.
